Embroidery Day.

Obviously, it was a hoot!

Christine writes: Embroidery Day was held on 21st May at Linda's house. There were seven of us in total (Linda, Thelma, Barbara, Judy, Janet, Marlene and I). Marlene and Thelma had a go at smocking, pleating their material with the smocking pleater, and starting on the embroidery stitches. Linda did the main teaching and I assisted.

The smocking in the photo is mine (Christine's), the embroidery is finished. It needs to be made into a needle roll.

Bookies members taking part in the swap exchanged ATCs. Here are some of those exchanged.

This swap is open to crafters of paper, fabric or fibre. Bring your ATC to Bookies Group meeting each month to swap.

Anne T pointed out one of our longest standing members, Loma, companionably passing on her spinning knowledge to one of our newest members, Deb, in a far corner of the veranda.

*
Helen was working on her beautiful applique quilt.

*
It was a lovely day and everyone relaxed around the tables to chat and do some hand work.

Once again, there was an abundance of show and tell!

If you live out of town please join in show and tell right here on our blog by sending me a picture of your work?

Felting workhop with Carol C from Cairns

A crowd of members enjoyed a very informative and productive morning doing a felting workshop with Carol C from Cairns on Saturday 23rd May. Carol is so much fun! Besides showing us her quick and easy method of felting on a baking tray with just water, soap and freezer bag, she encouraged us to eat as many of the chocolates she'd brought along as possible! We later learnt why. She wanted to show us how to trap the foil wrappers in our felting to give a bit of 'shine' to a piece! Natalie and Vanessa, our youngest members, took some great photos which you can view as a slide show by clicking on slideshow or on "felting workshop" above. Just one click and you'll get a screen with all the photos on and then click 'slideshow' at the top on the left and you'll get a lovely insight into what we did.
Please come again, Carol?

Senior Moments!

  1. The felting workshop on Saturday was wonderful, thanks Carol C . So much to tell you, but I forgot my camera and it wouldn't be the same without pictures. Christine's daughters kindly snapped away on her camera for me and Christine will save the photos to disc and give it to me on Wednesday to share with you.
  2. I was obviously very focused on the workshop to the exclusion of all else because when it was time to come home I couldn't find my car keys. I turned out my bags and containers a dozen times and they just weren't there. If anyone has been surprised to find a mystery set of keys in their bags or containers - I could've absent-mindedly dropped them into any convenient opening in my enthusiasm to get to the felting - please bring them along on Wednesday, they're mine! Thanks.

Scrumbling

After reading the latest newsletter, Dana from Toowoomba asked what 'a scrumble' was? As Dinie's our scrumbler I asked her to explain:

"Scrumbling is an innovative creative approach to crochet and knitting. Prudence Mapstone from Brisbane has written some books and Fibres has one in the library."

(For those who aren't familiar with links, the underlined words are a link - just click on her name and you'll go directly to Prudence's website.)

Here are some pictures of Dinie's scrumbles ......

Aren't they amazing?

Wednesday Social Morning and General Meeting

The Farm House was filled almost to capacity this morning, there was such a crowd in attendance. The chatter level was so great that Kath had to bring out Margaret D's old bell to bring the midday meeting to order!

Here are all the snail mail newsletters ready to find their way to their recipients. Lots of interesting news and photos coming your way! Don't forget, if you've got email you can get the monthly newsletter instantly delivered to your computer by sending Marion your email address.
While the rest of us were keeping our hands and mouths busy with handwork and chatter, Peter quietly got on with his work on the loom and Loma did the same on the spinning wheel.
The SWAT (Spinners, Weavers and Associated Textiles - I think I've got that correct?) Group are very active and are attracting a lot of interest. This coming Saturday morning there'll be a felting workshop. It starts at 9 am. If you want to join in and have lots of fun, bring: soap, a biscuit/baking tray, an (empty!) beer/cardboard carton, a freezer bag big enough to fit your hand in, a bucket and a spray bottle. If you have wool tops suitable for felting bring those, otherwise there will be some available to purchase at the Farm House. The Creative Group are joining in to make a wool batt suitable to work further, another time. And Carol C is coming from Cairns to teach us resist felting. (I understand that's what the cardboard's for!)

There were a lot of items at Show and Tell this week. I'd have posted more but my camera batteries went flat - wouldn't you know it! (So email me photos of your items please?) These two Polish vests were among the things and were made by Patrica S 20 years ago!

Christine and the Cross Stich and Embroidery Group got a lot of us going with their idea of sewing and then pooling some candlewicking squares from which to make a quilt. The idea was so enthusiastically embraced by so many people that there are enough squares to make two quilts! This square was sewn by Suzanne D.

Hope those of you who couldn't be there today have enjoyed this small insight into today's get together. We would love to see what you're working on or have recently completed, so please email me ( jungleburra@gmail.com ) some photos and a description so I can add them to the blog for you.
