3 D paper mache

On Wednesday Marion demonstrated 3 dimensional paper mache. She showed us how to create a low relief piece attached to a piece of cardboard, (see my tree below) and small figurines. Click on the photo below to see what everyone else made in the workshop.

Bumper Show and Tell - 26th August 2009

There were so many people at this Wednesday's social morning it was wonderful. And there was so much show and tell at the meeting that some of the items never reached me to photograph, but I've managed to put together a fine collection for you to see anyway. So much, in fact, that I've divided it up into sections with a link to each photo, so please click on the photo to see more items in that catagory. Have lots of fun!

Ayr Quilt Show

On Friday, 21st August, a group of very lucky Fibre-ers set off by bus and car for the Ayr Quilt Show. The exhibition of beautiful quilts and embroidery was absolutely stunning. I was so impressed by so much work of such a wonderful standard achieved by a group probably a third in number to Fibres. (Yes I know we're not all quilters and we do lots of diverse things - but it was impressive.) It was well worth the visit. After we'd had a good look and absorbed some ideas for the future from what we'd seen, we were served the most scrumptous morning tea. Then we fell into groups and set off to explore the retail and other delights of Ayr before finding places to have lunch and a chat. It was a contented and happy lot of people who travelled back home that afternoon.

(To see more of the trip please click on the photo above.)

Embroidery at Lyn's.

On Thursday, 20th August, the Embroidery Group spent a most enjoyable time at Lyn H's where she showed us how to shadow embroider a printed fabric of our choice. You will have seen some of Lyn's work using this method in a previous post. To see what we all achieved on the day please click on the photo above.
Thank you for a great time, Lyn.

Seniors in the Park.

A lovely shady spot under a huge old tree, good company for a chat, all doing something crafty, Margaret D spinning away, gentleman Rick offering a comfortable chair ............. what better way to spend the day?! (Of course, I forgot my camera AGAIN so unless Janet has a photo to add, you'll just have to take my word for it.)

Discharge Dyeing - Creative Arts Day

On Friday 14th August Marion taught discharge dyeing, a curious term that means to discharge or remove dye from fabric using bleach. The process is neutralized with vinegar, otherwise, the bleach will eat holes in the fabric, not a desired result for a t‑shirt.

The front fence became the washing line

Seeds and shells dipped in bleach made interesting patterns

Judy S.'s T-shirt

Karen's fabric - using fern leaves as a resist

Andy tied knots in fabric - hopefully we will see the result at show and tell

Aprons on Seamstress Day

On Thursday, 13th August, we met for Seamstress day, and while I continued under Anne T.’s expert instruction the making of a man’s shirt (our very first project from our very first meeting last year), the others made Aprons. These will be placed on the Member’s Table at the Christmas Fair in December.

Some members took packs and made their aprons at home.

Marion's apron

Jessica's bright green and orange apron

Suzanne C's apron also green and orange

Another offering from Marion

Keep up the good work everyone and I will endeavour to finish my man's shirt.

Three Dimensional Patchwork

Thursday's Patchwork day was very successful. A new technique was learned, the principle of which was discovered to be relatively easy as most things are once you have been shown. Above are photos of Kathy S. and Jessica W. busily working at their machines.

Below are Suzanne C.'s examples of step by step of the Spool block

Here is Kathy's finished blocks - Square in a Square at the top and Spool block below.

PS This post was made by Janet B from Carol's computer. Janet will be sharing the blogging from now on. Thanks, Janet.

Leo Birthday Party

On Friday 31st of August, we gathered at Pinnacles to celebrate the numerous birthdays that fall in July. Although the breeze was cool it was a very pleasant day to sit and knit and chat.
